I wish to point out the Faulty Meter scam by MSEDCL. Since November 2016, many residents in Khanda Colony, Kalamboli, Kharghar and Panvel had received their Bills with a blank meter reading and "Faulty Meter" mentioned on the bill. The amount charged in the bill was also very high. Consequently, the consumer lodged a complaint online on their website against the particular Consumer No., but there was no response from MSEDCL. Then on speaking to Customer Care, the executive gave a tracking no. and asked the consumer to file a written complaint for Faulty Meter in addition to online complaint.

the point is that the Meter reading is outsourced by MSEDCL to a third party and the concerned person does not take the photo of the meter reading correctly on their mobile phone. Earlier the third party used Cameras for clicking the Meter readings, which gave better clarity on the meter reading. Due to the inefficiency of the third party in clicking a clear photograph of the meter reading of the consumer, the MSEDCL authorities classified this as "Faulty meter" and penalized the consumer even though they were not a fault, whereas the meter is actually not faulty and is running correctly and the reading is also fine. The consumers also took meter readings and verified this personally on a consistent basis for the next one month.
This way the bill for next two months showed Faulty Meter and again a higher bill amount was charged. Subsequently, the meter reading was clicked correctly on Camera and then the problem was resolved in the bill after three months by MSEDCL. Therefore, MSEDCL should refund the excess amount charged to the Consumers immediately and recover the same from the third party for their inefficiency in clicking the Meter Reading snaps correctly on Camera.
It is to be noted that MSEDCL has revised the Tariff wef 1st Nov 2016 and is also levying Wheeling Charges @ Rs 1.18 per unit of electricity consumed. This results in a significant increase in the power bills. For example, for a monthly consumption of less than 100 units, the bill now comes to Rs 500 to Rs 700 which is way too high. The fixed meter charges have also been increased to Rs 55 per month. Even after levying Wheeling charges, MSEDCL resorts to Power cuts disrupting normal life of the consumers and leading to severe inconvenience.and defeating the very purpose of Navi Mumbai becoming a Smart City.
It is an appeal to the authorities to take up the matter with the Maharashtra Government and MSEDCL authorities and get the excess amount charged by MSEDCL to be refunded to the consumers in the next bills and resolve the issue permanently and prevent the occurrence of such events in future.
