* common stretch for TN & K'K
NDLS-ET (794kms) is common stretch for the two trains and here TN have higher score due to fact that it has 2 extra stops.
Earlier TN had only 3 stops (GWL/JHS/BPL) when K'K has 6 or 7 stops (MTJ/AGC/GWL/JHS/ BINA/BPL/ET). But the gap has narrowed down since last few years as TN has been given 2 more stops (AGC/ET).
Earlier...
more... TN was clearly taking lesser time than KA clearly indicating a bit higher priority than K'K but today the difference has narrowed down (just due to extra stops). Comparative timings of TN vs K'K for NDLS-ET is 11:10 vs 11:05 and for ET-NDLS is 12:22 vs 12:35 . Hence priority if K'K is no lesser than TN.

* Comparing the data of two trains with each other ,
(1) TN is winner and have much higher avg speed as its route is fully electrified and maintained to Rajdhani standard (130kmph fit ) where as K'K route is a mix of single and double line, some electrified some not, partly fit for 130 kmph & remaining fit for 110kmph.
(2) Biggest factor which has made K'K a loser is its inordinately large number of stops which are 33 in number as compared to just 11 of TN. Moreover loco changing/reversal take a toll on its timing
* Comparing the data of two trains with the other trains on their route,
(1) Raj/Fastest train are about 20% faster than both. K'K Rajs operate at 110kmph on most of its route as against 130kmph of TN Raj, this could have given advantage to K'K Exp, but here again its large number of stops have played spoil sport and as a result it is much slower than K/KSK where as TN Exp is faster than TNSK.
(2) However, regarding priority, the two trains are almost at par. K'K can take pride of having double headed diesel loco operation, where as the other 24 coach trains are operated with single diesel loco.
Earlier TN & K'K were the kings and were getting top priority through out their run, but with introduction of fully ac 130kmph premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, GR etc (1994 onwards) on their route, these trains have lost their sheen. They used to operate at 10kmph higher speed than other express trains of the route, a privilege currently enjoyed by premium trains only.
Today TN & K'K are just one of the best SF trains on their route, operating at same speed as other express trains, but enjoying a little bit of higher priority. They are definitely not the kings, as they used to be 2 decades ago.
