i dont knw from where u have seen the pax for shatabdi from karnal
local newspaper and even spotted several times that trains come and just halt and go at karnal and sonipat both
sonipat halt is removing in upcoming month may be in july
as karnal it is a political stoppage due to CM and MP
karnal

no where stands in terms of railway thats why most of the trains didnt halt even not so many express and sf
while panipat an industrial town
regarding kalka shatabdi
yes from delhi to panipat not so much pax on daily basis on weekend so many bookings done
and on daily basis from panipat to kalka/cdg/umb so many bookings done
demand is in evening so much high, as in morning several trains like Himalayan queen, shan e punjab, pathankot express etc trains takes so much pax
so many business class people due to industrial area of haryana, equidistant from delhi and chandigarh train wants shatabdi train in evening slot

I have been travelling on almost all shatabdis between Delhi and Ambala since i work in Gurgaon and my home town is at Ynr. I make 8 - 10 trips every month. Seriously have not seen any enthusiasm from pax from PNP to board this train in both ways since past 7 years !! there can be many reasons primary being its proximity to Delhi less than 90 Kms ; good road infrastructure ; high ratios of labor class ( business classes don't take trains for 85 kms of journey) and good bus services readily available at any time of the day !!!
I generally stand at the door when shatabdi halts at such stations to roughly estimate the pax boarding

/ de boarding the train. The max from PNP in any direction i found was under 5 :P it is seriously a waste stop !!

They even did not added Panipat as the halt for any of the evening shatabdi s for that reason !!! while i have usually seen 30 - 40 pax on an average getting down at Ambala Cantt. even from the ASR Shatabdi !! considering ambala is a smaller town than PNP

I m from panipat and i know the condition of it
I too travel a lot in this region and my brother also to chandigarh
And what i said is that people travel from panipat to umbala/cdg/kalka
Not saying that ndls to pnp too much
Secondly
...
according to RRTS corridor pnp is selected only in haryana
Because panipat is the onlyy town in haryana with sp much big industries
So many service class and business related people comes there
Also now panipat comes in NCR region, and daily more than 1.5 lacs people travel from panipat to delhi by road, rail , personal transport, regarding shatabdi i already said evening shatabdi needed not morning
And now a days flexi fare too ruined the short travel in shatabdis
Also if panipat is in loss making they will withdraw the halt but not yet even panipat not having political influence, similarly to sonipat withdrawing halt from july for cdg shatabdi

I am a transport planner believe me !! Panipat RRTS was given priority over Alwar RRTS due to low or poor connectivity between Delhi and suburb like Murthal Narela Rai Sonipat smalkha Gannaur !!! and yes Panipat. Your estimate of Daily passenger trips between Delhi and Panipat is way too high !! as per our surveys and reports , the highest inter city commuter traffic between any two cities in this region is between Delhi and Gurgaon where more a little less than 2.5 lakh people commute a day !!
The figure of Panipat is very high since interaction between any two cities is inversely proportional to distance ( read Gravitational Modal (Transport Planning)) and proportional to local characteristics like
...
employment and residential population matters too !! but in both cases Panipat is way behind Gurgaon.
Moreover , Government is internally pushing Alwar RRTS on priority too as bid for DPR for the same will be awarded this month (Don't when they will start bid for PNP one.)
well as you know RRTS is planned between Delhi-PNP it corresponds to requirement of commuter transport more rather than luxury transport that's what reflected in your comment. Industrial Characteristics of Panipat which is majorly known as Weaver or handloom town also does not actually generate high traffic/travel demand as compared to other service industries !!!
