Here are some security tips suggested by SWR/Indian Railway Portal.
TIPS FOR SECURE TRAVEL:
Passengers are requested to co-operate with the Railways, RPF and Police to prevent theft of their belongings in trains.
Information regarding suspicious persons should immediately be brought to the notice of Railway police/RPF/Station Manager

Always see that your belongings are safe and avoid moving around leaving your luggage abandoned.
Avoid leaving your belongings to the care of co-passengers, however friendly they may appear to be and also avoid taking tea, coffee, biscuits or drinks when offered by strangers. There are strong possibilities of such food items being drugged/adulterated.
Please avoid carrying expensive things, articles or heavy cash while traveling in trains it is safer to use DD or credit cards.
Avoid sleeping close to the windows in trains if you are wearing gold ornaments or costly jewels particularly during the departure of the train, as this gives an opportunity for criminals to snatch away your jewellery, as the train is moving out of the station. It is advisable to cover your jewels with Duppata, scarf or sari.
In case of any theft of passenger belongings, you are requested to contact the GRP or RPF on duty. In case they cannot be contacted, you can give your complaint to the coach attendant, TTE or the guard as this enables the concerned authorities to take speedy action.
In case of any theft of passenger belongings in trains, it is advisable to be calm. Getting angry or impatient may result in losing valuable information and identity of criminals.
Passengers traveling in groups are requested to keep a watch over their belongings by turn.
While traveling in group or marriage parties proceeding by trains, it is suggested that you keep the Railway
Police Authorities informed in advance so that necessary security arrangements can be made.
In case of stoppage of your train at any unscheduled place or in the mid section, you are advised to pull down the window shutters immediately, besides ensuring that the doors are bolted properly.
Do not alight from the coach during such unscheduled stoppages. In case you want to know the reason of such stoppage the same can be obtained from the Railway authorities available in the train. It will be unsafe to get down from the train because there will be every possibility of any miscreants harassing you. Further, you may also find yourself caught in the midst of Police action against any miscreants which can take an unpleasant turn. You may also be left behind if the train moves.
Generally thefts occur during summer months as there is a tendency to keep window shutters open during this season. It is advised that you close at least the venation shutters of the windows during night ;hours so as to avoid potential criminals from operating through ;open windows.
Passengers detraining are requested to close the door properly after exit.
It is unsafe to stand near the door ways and stick out your hands or head in an attempt to look outside. It is equally dangerous to walk on the rail track or to board a running train. These can result result in serious injury or death.
