Bogibeel superstructure complete
All of the 41 girders of the nearly 5-km-long Bogibeel road-cum-rail bridge have been launched and put in place on Friday. With this, the superstructure has been fully completed on this important national infrastructure project. Engineers are now laying the railway tracks on the lower deck, while road laying work has commenced on 23 girder sections. The road laying works on the upper deck of the bridge include a concrete base on the steel structure, which will be topped with a bitumen mixture. The three-lane highway on the bridge will also have footpaths on either shoulders of the road deck.

However, what is worrying the railway engineers is that the approach road on the south bank (Dibrugarh end) is yet to be completed and the pace of work leaves much to be desired. This would delay the commissioning of the bridge, said one project engineer.
