I remember my dad was a frequent traveller of MAQ-MRJ MG train and also he was with IR when HAS-MAQ MG line was getting constructed. Since KR was not there this was the only option for UBL and other areas people to reach MAQ.
Mangalore - Miraj was there and there was a connecting train for this from Mysore (I remember, the time table of which was painted on a wall at Mysore bus stand for publicity purpose) Since KR was not there this was an alternate route for Mangalore to Pune side (other one being via SRR-CBE-KPD-GTL-SUR to PUNE which our Jayanthi janata express is still following).
II just cant remember this. Maybe we should request MR PKV to fish out his All India Time Table of 1972 and check up for us..
Also, in Konkan railway literature the time saving for people from Mangalore is calculated with base of MAQ-SRR-CBE-PUNE-CSTM.
One of is correct, but proof is needed!
