Why DLW is still continuing with energy inefficient ALCO DLocos. LHB, HHP-GE-DLocos technology were procured at the same time. Just like coach factories have fully switched over to safer LHB coaches, DLW, CLW too should switch over to energy efficient and more powerful locos.
DLW as well serves project of other countries and hence multiple types of loco's are manufactured as per demand
DLW ceased the production of ALCOs a few years ago. It has been an EMD-only facility for sometime now (Excluding any industrial locos or locos for other countries). Only the Parel workshops and DMW Patiala deal with ALCOs now. DMW mainly rebuilds WDM2 locomotives to WDM3A specifications and Parel workshops manage the industrial loco segment and assemble WDS6 locomotives for shunting.
That aside, despite the energy 'inefficiency', ALCOs still hold some advantages over EMDs which is one of the primary reasons for their longevity.
