Sub: Periodicity for Overhaul of Air-Conditioned Coaches.
Ref: Railway Board's letter No.85/M(W)/814/88 dt. 22.10.85.
Board after having considered all aspects regarding maintenance of Air-Conditioned Coaches have decided that periodicity for overhaul of Air-Conditioned coaches (air brake and vacuum brake) shall be as follows :

i) Rajdhani & Shatabdi
a) POH - After 4 lakh Km or 18 months whichever is earlier.
b) IOH - After 2 lakh Kms. or 9 months whichever is earlier.
ii) All air conditioned coaches POH - after 12 months other than (i) above.
Sub: Periodicity of POH of mid life rebuilt coaches.
Board have decided that the coaches which have undergone mid life rebuilding at Bhopal Workshop shall be given POH after 24 months, in line with the practice followed for newly manufactured coaches. As in the case of newly manufactured coaches, an intermediate overhaul (IOH) should be given after one year.
2. Bhopal Workshop should mark the return date on rebuilt coaches as per the revised POH period of 2 years.
Sub: Periodicity of POH of Air-Conditioned coaches.

Instructions regarding POH of AC coaches were issued vide Board's letter referred above. A doubt has been raised by one of the Railways regarding the periodicity to be followed for the first POH of AC coaches. It is clarified for the information of the Railways that the first POH of AC coaches should be as under:
(i) Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express coaches -
First POH after 4 lakh Kms. or 18 months whichever is earlier. First IOH after 2 lakh Kms. or 9 months may be dispensed with.
(ii) All air-conditioned coaches (Air or Vacuum brake) other than (i)
First POH after 24 months. (As per Board's letter No.85M(W)/814/EE dated 15.7.92).
IOH in depots shall be as per extant instructions.
