Came across some interesting facts abt this train.
-Launched on June 1. 1912.
-The once luxury train would carry people from the then Bombay port to Peshawar in the North western frontier.
-The train still runs on the same route up to Firozpur since partition.

train of the time, Punjab mail covered 2496 km in 47 hrs carrying British officers, who arrived by sea and were directly taken to the North western Frontier( now pak) from the Mumbai port.
So Punjab mail has contributed its bit to the railways role in unifying the country. People from far off remote places in an around NWFrontier used to and still travel to the Dream city of Mumbai to seek a new future.
