When I was a student at Chidambaram, mostly travelled in trains pulled by steam engines from Villupuram. Chennai-Villupuram was electrified.
I never traveled in MG trains hauled by YAM series from MS, as far as I remember ( express / passenger). Only once or twice hauled by YDM series from TBM traveled.
Rameswaran-Chennai was hauled by diesel, Madurai-Tirupati express by steam, Shencottah passenger was in great demand and was upgraded to diesel engine. Rest I don't remember. Cholan was hauled by diesel. These I observed when I was at Chidambaram.
Diesel link was used during BG conversion. MG express train used to start from TBM & only single line was there.
