In 1878, the railway line from Calcutta (later called Sealdah) station to Siliguri was in two stages – 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) broad gauge from Calcutta to Damookeah Ghat, on the southern bank of the Padma, across the river in a ferry and then 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) metre gauge to Siliguri. Waise what's the reason ki NJP ko itna burdened kiya hai. I can see ki Thakurganj-Siliguri-New Mal se NJP bypass kar sakte hai but there is not a single train jo us route se jati ho mostly break karke SGUJ via NJP hi le jaate hai.

Ha ye slow bhi hai aur single line bhi hai but NJP ek single station hai jiske through Assam ja sakte hai. Ye I guess slower but still ek bypass to hai hi. I thought 1-2 trains to hongi hi but actually SGUJ jane wali har train via NJP hi jaati hai. I hope iss bypass ka use ho to Northeast ka traffic bina NJP ko overloaded kiye badha sake.
New Timetable me Mahananda, Capital aur Kanchankanya have been diverted via AUB-Bagdogra-SGUJ..

Udhar reversal ka problem hai aur agar rail udhar GLMA se BORA (SGUJ Bypass) karna bhi chahe to political issues k liye nahi ho paayega
