Like the normal ICF coaches, these coaches have an alternator connected to the wheels, which generates electricity while the train is moving. The generated electricity powers the lights, fans and AC in the coaches.
Normal LHB coaches do not have such a facility and require EOG cars with diesel generators to generate the electricity required to power the lights, fans and AC in the coaches.
Hybrid LHB is the same as self-generating LHB coaches except the Self-generating LHB coaches have FIAT boges

( The structure to which the wheels are attached) while Hybrid LHB coaches have ICF bogies (The same bogies that are used in normal ICF coaches).

The designs were failures.
The Fiat bogies used in LHB coaches do not have sufficient space to mount the generators. So alternate methods had to be designed. But none of the designs were successful and the coaches have an MPS of only 105 kmph.
Hybrid LHB tried to avoid this problem by using ICF bogies instead of FIAT bogies, but again these coaches had ride quality issues and too man failures in the suspension.
