is ladies quota for all female or have som criteria and can i book normal e-tikit before 8 am ?

I tried by selecting LD quota in IRCTC with one female and one male, But it says that since you have chosen "ladies quota" passengers has to be either females or children below the age of 12 years
I tried with a male passenger name with 11 yrs of age and i am able to book it under ladies quota
