At present, vacancies in the category of Diesel / Electric Assistants are filled up as per Railway Board letter No....
more... E(NG)I-90/PM7/34/Vol-II dated 02.09.1998 as under:
(i) 50% of the vacancies to be filled up from amongst the volunteering Diesel/Elect. Loco fitters/Diesel Elect. Loco Group-D staff in the manner and subject to the conditions laid down in Board’s letter dated 25.4.97.
(ii) 50% of the vacancies plus the shortfall, if any, against (i) above by direct recruitment through RRBs.
Further in 2002 the mode of filling up the vacancies in the category of Diesel Assistant/Electric Assistant in the running cadre was relaxed by permitting surplus group ‘C’ and ‘D’ staff of Workshop/C&W Depot/Electrical (TRD)/Electric (General).
Minimum Educational Qualification for ALP
Presently, the educational qualification for recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) is Matric plus ITI in the specified trade/act apprenticeship or diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/ Electronics in lieu of ITI. Ministry of Railways vide their order No. E(NG)II/2000/RR-I/47 dated 03.08.2001 have issued instructions prescribing minimum educational qualifications for various categories of staff.
