Extreme Race between trains!! Route diverted MITHILA Express and loaded coal freight battle it out!!
Video link: click here
Enjoy the thrilling race between the most reliable Passenger Locomotive and the strongest Freight Locomotive of INDIAN RAILWAYS.
Just as I and my fellow railfans deboarded from our EMU at Madhusudanpur station fora a brief gala session, 40129 SGUJ WDP- 4D raced past us with

the 24 coaches load of 12345 Howrah (HWH)- Guwahati (GHY) SARAIGHAT Superfast Express. While the EMU was in the reversible track, the Superfast decided to chase it through the up main line.
And that was just the beginning of more things to come. The signals of both the reversible and the main tracks were again changed from red to double caution and green respectively, which meant that we were in again for a parallel action. And there was the twist in the tale. In the evening slot, the reversible track is mostly used by EMU and freights, while the main track is used by the faster trains. But shockingly this time, it was the other way round. After completing a scheduled halt at Kamarkundu station, the route diverted 13021 Howrah (HWH)- Raxaul (RXL) MITHILA Express accelerates rapidly behind 22303 HWH WAP-4, and is given a mighty challenge by the monster 31434 TATA WAG- 9H with a mammoth West bound loaded coal freight. It was the catch for the day for me, watching the freight locomotive giving a mighty chase to the Express train.
MITHILA EXPRESS, whose average speed is 41 km/hr (on the return leg, it falls even further to 38 km/hr), follows the Howrah- Seoraphuli- Bandel- Burdwan- Durgapur- Asansol- Sitarampur- Madhupur- Jasidih- Jhajha- Kiul- Barauni- Samastipur- Muzaffarpur- Bapudham Motihari- Sugauli- Raxaul route. On the particular day, numerous trains running on the Howrah Burdwan Main line was diverted via the Chord line due to third line work in between Bandal and Burdwan stretch.
The Saraighat Express is a daily superfast train which runs between Howrah (Kolkata) and Guwahati (Assam). The train is named after the famous Battle of Saraight fought between Mughals and rulers of Assam (Ahom Kingdom) in which Mughals were defeated by the Ahoms under the great leadership of Mahavir Lachit Barphukan Commander-in-Chief.
The train follows the Howrah- Burdwan- Bolpur Shantiniketan- Rampurhat- Malda Town- Kishanganj- New Jalpaiguri- New Cooch Behar- New Alipurduar- New Bongaigaon- Guwahati route of ER/ NFR.
