With this, Bahraich will have a direct rail link Lucknow. Seema Khatoon, a lawyer, has been struggling to get the project sanctioned for the last ten years and now her efforts bore fruitful results. It is noted that Bahraich had only metre gauge service from Gonda to Mailani. Ghaghra will be also be constructed. Khatoon launched an agitation for the rail line ten years back. The then railway minister Nitish Kumar laid down the foundation stone for the conversion of Bahraich-Gonda rail line into broad gauge seven year back and it was presumed that the rail services in Bahraich will improve. But the work was not completed and the dream of improvement in rail service remained unfulfilled. The order for the acquisition of land for the construction of over bridge on railway crossing near Dargah Shariff has also been issued.
