Regarding Clearing of Tatkal WL vs. GNWL.
I had posted a question a few weeks ago, and that has been archived /blog/post/393216. Hence starting a new thread.
Today's ET had an article on how Tatkal WL is officially given preference in case of an extra coach (/news/post/73872). However it does not clarify what happens when there is no extra coach attached. Is the Tatkal WL always cleared first, and then general RAC/ WL is cleared (if possible)?

Any further thoughts or comments on this? Is it preferable to book a general WL a few months early, or wait for the last day and take a Tatkal WL instead?
If you book only a Tatkal ticket, you may have missed the chance of a confirmation of a General waiting list. Sometimes a General waiting list does get confirmed. So I suppose it depends on what number is your General WL
