more... move has been made possible after a spare 20-coach rake of Linke-Hofmann Busch (LHB) make from Western Railway (WR) is being transferred to CR.
The premium train, which was started in January this year, has become popular not only among Mumbai’s passengers but also those from Jalgaon and Bhopal. The train initially took 20 hours to reach Delhi but its travel time reduced to 16 hours after the railways used pushpull technology to operate it.
Despite its popularity, the CR officials were not able to increase its frequency as they did not have another rake, and with a single rake only two services were possible in a week. However, with another rake being sent from WR, CR officials are working on starting two more services, possibly within the next 15 days.
A senior CR official said, “We are hoping to receive the rake in a day or two after which we will be making changes in it to enable it to run on push-pull technology like our first rake. It will take about a week to get it done”
In exchange of the rake, the CR will be transferring rake their spare rakes to WR.
According to officials from CR, the transfer of rake is being made after an order from the Railway Board.
The premium Rajdhani Express has special coaches with hot boxes and pantries making it difficult for the zonal railways to run the service with any spare coach available. Chief PRO of CR, Shivaji Suttar, said, “We are working on the modalities to increase the services of our premium Rajdhani. There is certainly a great demand for it.”
