Looks like 12809/12810 Mumbai Mail and 12859/12860 Gitanjali Express are going to see significant changes within a few days, starting in July:

Both could see speed increase by a bit, and may end up with an RSA arrangement. It would make sense, as that would free up one rake (7-rakes shared between the two versus 8-rakes they currently use).

8009/10 is 12809/10 now. 18009/10 is SRC-AII Express now. But before 5 digit numbering system was adopted, 8009/10 till 2005 was HWH CSTM Mail via NGP. that time HWH dep was 19.30 hrs, CSTM arr was 06.30 hrs & CSTM dep was 20.40 hrs; HWH arr was 07.10 hrs.
Mail was 8001/8002 at the time (and before it, 1 down/2 up). It never had RSA with Gitanjali, (which was originally 59 down/60 up and was only equipped with Sleeper class, no AC).
Bombay/Mumbai - Howrah Mail via Nagpur was never number 8009/8010. This is how the numbering progressed:
1 Down/2 Up (Superfast) 8001 Down/8002 Up (Non-SF) 2809 Down/2810 Up (upgraded back to Superfast) 12809 Down/12810 Up

I've tracked this train since I took my first ever overnight journey from Raipur to Bombay VT back in 1975 as a three year old....

RSA with Mumbai mail will help us to much. I am very happy that finally Gitanjali Exp getting 1A. It is very required for Gitanjali.
