Indian Railways introduced Double Decker Coaches in late 1970s. Bombay VT-Poona Sinhagad Express was the first train to get those coaches later withdrawn.
At present only two trains run with Double decker coaches;
1) 12921-21 Mumbai Central-Surat Flying Ranee
2) 59023 Mumbai Central-Valsad Fast Passenger
In 2011 IR introduced AC Double Decker coaches and the first train introduced with AC DD coaches was Howrah-Dhanbad AC DD in October 2011.
At present there are 9 trains running with AC Double Decker Coaches.
