Jan-Shatabdi is an economical version of Shatabdi. It has Non-AC and AC coaches too. Shatabdi is fully AC.

Generally the trend is zones strive to get Shatabdi's but if they feel there will be no 100% occupancy then the go for jan shatabdi and then if the timing is not convenient or route is busy they go for intercity
