In big train stations, especially the ones where trains start their journey, there's a special line for the engines to move around. This line helps in keeping the other platforms clear when the engine is busy shuffling around. The engines usually chill there before heading to the maintenance shed or hooking up with another train. Talking about cargo, NGP has a yard specifically for freight, with tracks running alongside the main station on the east side. Most, if not all, freight travels through this yard. The track leading to the freight yard is the one that creates that famous X-shaped intersection with the Calcutta line on the outskirts of NGP.
