This is a legacy of early 90s. Difficult to remove major junction. This will likely be resolved after Deoband - Roorkee line opens up and a new VB express starts between Delhi - Dehra Dun (NDLS - GZB - MTC - MOZ - DBD - RK - HW - DDN). If tracks support, this may be covered in around 4 hours.
As other trains don't reverse at SRE like Nanda Devi DDN JS and all...
