every night 12840 reaching HWH at 23.30-00.00 hrs & causing inconvenience to Passengers very much. Passengers can board train in midnight by reaching station 3 hrs earlier but passengers feels troubled when the have to deboard at near midnight or midnight in their destination. So 12840 must depart from MAS at 00.15 hrs & reach HWH after 27 hrs 45 mins at 04.00 hrs. This will make Passengers boarding at MAS & deboarding at HWH easy. #SR & #SER Please see this matter.

This train, though still called Howrah mail, is now having very convenient timings only for Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, etc,.. upto Balasore.
12841 Coro arrives @ 5 PM at MAS and then returns as 12840 Mail @ 7.15 PM, so that the train doesn't keep occupying the platform for a long time. To change one slot of MAS Mail, even 12841 Coro slot would have to be changed, plus ER might also object to the return of early morning arrival of MAS Mail at HWH considering the many early morning arrivals at HWH. Many complexities are there for the old timings to return, inconvenience of passengers has just take a backseat for the officials.
HWH RPF & GRP has requested ER & SER to ensure Passengers don't get stranded around 00.00 hrs to 04.30 hrs at HWH station. Which is now most common
12841 Shalimar to Chennai Coromandel also can follow same timings of MAS-SHM Coromandel, i.e. dep. Shalimar 7am, arr. MAS 10am. Then 12840 MAS-HWH mail can depart at 12noon (after cleaning) in which case it can reach HWH 4pm.
