Its been 10 years since I moved out of India I see that things have changed a bit but not too much. I will be moving to Chandigarh and my roots are in Hyderabad. I have spent more than an hour on the net in answer to the simple question "Are there any direct trains from Chandigarh to Delhi?" I suppose we will need an Apple inc to look into this problem.
Right now it seems I need to know multiple stations in each city and then look up each train via the number/station code and on Yatra and Make my trip I have to decide my travel dates in advance no matter that some trains are not daily and I

have to just cycle through inputting details many many times to arrive at some knowledge.
Indian railway has on their website the wonderful info "what seats are available at a particular station (ie on all trains in every possible direction)" how nice this is just what a person contemplating travel needs!!
So someone can help with this question or direct me to some place where I can get information. I have already been to the railway timetable page and it is just as good as it used to be in print a decade ago.

Let me guess you might have searched on google for the string as in direct trains from delhi to chandigarh. If you try irctc, the from station will give you an option for Delhi - All stations. It's just a matter of getting used to. BTW. If you've decided to get back here, get used to they style here we're different as the guys staying overseas are
