Already Govt. of India spends close to 9% of its GDP on social welfare services, and has a fiscal deficit of close to 7%, which is also one of the major reasons of inflation in the country.

tha, kaun minister fir risk lega fare increase karne ka? Uska alternative option ye mila hai jo ab government kar rahi hai.
Don't get it wrong I have never wanted the AC coaches to increase this much in number as majority of Indians still can't afford them, but the non-AC classes at present fares is just unsustainable for IR. Compare rail ticket prices worldwide to the indian prices of unreserved classes and you would understand why.
