Why guntur was not included in HWH-MAS main line being major city and why tenali was included despite of smaller than guntur?
No train on HWH-MAS route touch GNT IIRC. So it is not considered to be on mainline
I am asking why the IR not included the guntur in the main railway line despite bigger city
Most of the current trunk routes are in existence since British India.
So, from wherever they passed the lines, continues to be major route even today (be that small town or village).
IR doesn't bothered that much in including big cities on trunk routes by realigning them.

When lines were laid during British time... Machalipatnam to Goa line was planned as meter gauge via Gnt and Chennai route was planned with broad gauge via tenali with Junction at Tadepalli
