Vande Bharath is the new flavour of the season and quite welcome at that. But in the proccess has IR neglected the SLEEPER CLASS so abjectly that it is now the NEW GENERATION UR with the 3AC taking the place of SL ?
Until say about 5 years ago, I was an inveterate traveller in the SL class, but after my pitiful experiences in 12863/64 HWH-YPR-HWH Express trains I was reluctantly compelled to shift gears to 3AC. Now with 3AC gradually going the way of SL, what with WL/UR pax occupying space between the doors and blocking access to the toilets, I have recently started patronising 2A. For how long, God alone knows.

I agree with your assessment that IR is rushing too much with this rake standardization though I disagree with your CC.
Everyone blame for reduction in sleeper coaches becoming cause of encroachment but i feel that it is due to poor law and order only.
No matter how much sleeper coaches be increased, if there will not be a proper punishment imposition on illegal passengers, situations will remain same.

One of the steps urgently required is to stop this indiscriminate issue of WL tickets up to WL400 or 500 etc. If these are PRS tickets then WL pax freely board the SL or even 3A coaches and make travel horrible for confirmed passengers
Here in Goa they increased fines for riding without helmet from 100rs to 1000rs but i have seen instances of people escaping the fine by paying a bribes of 200 to 500rs to the officers.
So more than the rules the problem is the implementation of those rules.
Regarding the scenario in trains it is a two fold problem first Railways officially allow heavy WL to earn more revenue through cancellation charges and second the corruption in Railway staff who collect bribes from the people travelling illegally in trains

Regardless of the number of SL coaches the train has railways have to ensure that the passengers with confirmed ticket travel with dignity without any nuisances from unauthorised people in the coach. Second even a person travelling in UR class has paid for the seat so railways should have ensured that these coaches never get crowded beyond the seating capacity but sadly be it with trains or buses unreserved class was and still is associated with overcrowded mess the root of the problem being our such huge population and I don't think of a possible solution incase of short distance unreserved passengers who travel to travel everyday for their bread and butter but atleast in long distance trains there is a solution as Mridul sir had pointed out converting GS coaches to 2S in long distance trains and secondly ensuring that unauthorised people are not allowed to enter in the trains...
