In my opinion, this bypass is more for new trains, freights, avoid reversals. Problem with GTL station is PF1,2 were erstwhile MG lines so there is no linkage between them with rest. There is an old station building in between.
Further, limited space is there to double mallappa gate to GTL. To satisfy both, some creative brains brought this bypass. There was no intention to reroute gy-pendekallu trains via this.
There is some news that new kcg-ypr VB will not touch GTL.

In my opinion, this bypass is more for new trains and freights, so they can avoid going back and forth. The problem with GTL station is that PF1 and PF2 used to be part of some old MG lines, so there's no way to connect them with the rest. There's an old station building right in between them, too.
Plus, there's not enough space to expand the Mallappa Gate to GTL. So to satisfy everyone, some genius came up with this bypass. It wasn't meant to redirect Gy-Pendekallu trains, though.
There's some hearsay that the new KCG-YPR VB won't be making a stop at GTL.

Mere hisab se, yeh bypass zyada tar naye trains aur goods trains ke liye hai, reversal ko avoid karne ke liye. GTL station ki problem hai ki PF1,2 pehle ki meter gauge lines thi isliye unke beech mein koi connection nahi hai. Bich mein ek purane station building bhi hai.
Aur GTL se mallappa gate double karne ke liye limited space hai. Dono ko satisfy karne ke liye, kuch creative dimag ne yeh bypass laya hai. Iska matlab nahi hai ki gy-pendekallu trains ko isse route karne ka irada tha.
Kuch news hai ki new kcg-ypr VB GTL ko touch nahi karegi.
