Price of petrol, diesel and cooking gas LPG have increased by 50% from Rs 75 to Rs 110 post covid the subsidies of petroleum products are removed from 2014 to 2019 by increasing every fortnight. So central govt can increase base fares of GS and SL by 5%-8% every year till they reach the break even operating level. The central govt has directed state govts of all states to increase property taxes rates by 15% every year and in Andhra Pradesh the taxes have increased by 50% in 3 yrs. Yes there is discomfort and resentment among public yet we are paying infact all citizens of country are impacted by petrol prices. They need to take the step as GS and SL coaches will stay for another 20 years as try are still being manufactured. Fact is ICF coaches will also be there till 2035.
