🚨 Only 1% of railway networks are covered by Kavach in India. 1,465 km out of 1.3 lakh km. Work is going on for the rest.
The Kavach system, an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system developed by the Indian Railways, has only been implemented on a small portion of the railway network. Currently, it covers only 1,465 route kilometers and 121 locomotives in the South Central Railway zone.
The train accident has put the spotlight back on the railway's Kavach system that has so far been implemented in only a little over 1% of the railway network of India.
According to official records, of the nearly 1.3 lakh route kilometres (rkm) covered by the Indian Railway map, Kavach is in place only on 1,465 rkm that falls under the South Central Railway zone and 121 locomotives.
