Back in the day, there used to be a train line called Bheramara-Damukdia-Jalangi-Lalgola Ghat Line in the 1940s. But after the partition, they got rid of the Bheramara-Damukdia line, and the Damukdia-Jalangi-Lalgola Ghat line got destroyed in the 1948 floods. The Darjeeling mail used to leave Sealdah at 17:45, and it would take around 11 hours to finish the 520 km journey to Siliguri via Gede-Poradaho-Iswardi-Santahar-Parbatipur. There was also the Amnura train, which was called Rajshahi Express. It used to leave Sealdah at 18:45 and arrive at Amnura & Godagari Ghat at 04:45 am. From there, it would connect to a train to Katihar via Rohanpur-Singhabad-Bulbulchandi-Malda Court-Kumedpur. There was a train at 07:45 to Siliguri called the North Bengal Express, but it took a whopping 13 hours to complete the journey. It would connect to a MG link train to Katihar via Parbatipur-Dinajpur-Barsoi-Mukuria. The Assam Mail, which left Sealdah at 13:00, was actually a continuation of the train that arrived in Sealdah from Delhi at 10:30. Assam Mail was a BG train from Delhi to Santahar and then an MG train from Santahar to Bogura-Kaunia-Gitaldaha-Golakganj-Bongaigaon-Rangiya, and it would end at Amingaon. Lastly, there was the East Bengal Express, which left at 21:10. It was a Sealdah-Goalundo train, with a link train to Parbatipur known as the East Bengal Mail.
