Unpopular Opinion but if they are asking for a suburban system like Bombay, they are already shortchanging themselves. Mumbai's suburban trains are dangerous, over crowded and a relic of the past, I had argue. If anything, they should demand something like RapidX metro that is being used to connect Delhi to Meerut. That is more modern, convenient, air conditioned and did I mention, no chance of anyone being killed directly or indirectly unlike the suburban mess than Mumbai is.
Thats the sad part. SECR doesn't care about Passenger service.
Yes, but Bombay's on another level. I mainly experienced Calcutta's suburban rail on the HWH-KGP section. It was much better on this route compared to say on the HWH-BWN route. The worst I saw was an EMU plying to Digha, it was probably the densest train I have seen with nary an space to get into. I couldn't move an inch for the whole 2.5 hrs from Panskura to Digha.
Most busiest are SDAH-BNJ & SDAH-KNJ Local Trains. Kolkata Suburban is the Biggest in terms of Area & Distance covered. Mumbai is Biggest in terms of Station density & Busiest because of that. Kolkata Suburban station density is 1.96 i.e. 1 station in every 1960 mtrs. Mumbai has station density at 1.565 i.e. 1 station in every 1565 meters.
