On paper, it might seem like 110 and 100 kmph don't make a huge difference, but in reality they do. Even assuming just a 10 hour run at 110 kmph vs 100 kmph, the difference in distance covered is a whooping 100 km. So yes, MPS actually matters. Secondly, Diesels also do the job well. During ALCO era, Bihar Sampark Kranti frequently covered GKP-LKO in 3:30-3:45 hrs with a single WDM-3A/D + 24 overloaded ICF coaches.
