If during travelling, dispute arise upon the age of child ( For Half ticket), Then Onus is on whom to prove the age?

Here one incident, which happened during one of my train journey. A family mother and 2 children were occupying the SLB and SUB. They have not purchased ticket for their younger child (looks around 5-6 age). The elder one was having Half ticket.. After checking the ticket the TTE enquired to mother why they have not purchased ticket for the second child. Then mother replied that he has not completed 5 years. Then TTE asked the boy how old he is the boy replied his age. Then TTE checked our ticket and before moving to next bay he casually enquired to the child which school you are studying….The child answered the question and then his second question to him was in which CLASS, you are studying, the child replied in FIRST standard. Then TTE turned against mother and told her if you have not purchased ticket tell straight away...
