The father of the nation on a currency note is a great motivator and the more you pay the more likelihood of you getting a better service but yeah don't go overboard......start off with a low amount and depending on the service you get pay them accordingly and don't be hard on yourself if you pay a smaller amount if the service is "Iffy" as it's your hard earned money and you deserve it more than anyone else.

This incident happened to me onboard Bhopal New Delhi Shatabdi. I was traveling from Bhopal to Mathura on this train. They started serving dinner after Agra and I knew I wouldn't be able to finish my dinner before the train arrives at Mathura. Then the pantry guy offered to pack the dinner for me. You will be amazed what all he had packed. Parathas,2 dal,2 paneer,2 dahi, rice salad etc. I was shocked when I opened the package at my hotel in Mathura. As there was so much food I gave some to the room boys there. All this because I had tipped a 100 at Bhopal itself.

There is nothing cunning about it. This is just the way things work in India.
