Patna Rajdhani reaches Delhi @ 7 30 a.m and the shatabdi is @ 7 40 am, Is it preferable to do this connecting journey, or should i board the train, the next day?
pl never take this risk of 10 minutes. You can take the evening shatabdi 2005 at 1715 if you would like to go to kalka else, take any chandigarh train and then travel by bus to kalka if its urgent.
No sir 10 minutes is not enough margin. I think bus connectivity to chandigarh is very good with buses departing every 15 minutes or so.
contd - patna rajdhani reaches at 0735 not 730. so its only 5 mts from one platform to another.
you can also try any train going to Ambala Cantt, come out of station on to the main road and take a bus to Chandigarh or Kalka. buses are frequent. choice is yours.

There are no buses for Chandigarh outside the Railway Station. You can catch Metro Train from Ajmeri Gate Side of the Railway Station to ISBT (Station Name is Kashmere Gate. It is just opposite the ISBT- Inter State Bus Terminus). Bus service is reliable.
