How berth is alloted by centralized computer system? if i give specific berth preference and berth is available then can computer will automatically allot it to me?
There is no rule as such. If you tick the field which reads "Only book If LB is available" then you can be rest assured of the same.
actually all quota are in res.clerk hands
we have few categories like gen, tatkal, ladies, lb, h.o., f.t., handicapped etc
if we know the clerk and if we request him he will reserve for LB quota though the gen quota is rac/wl becz I got exp. recently I have reserved tkt frm sc-snsi

you need not know the person at PRS. Just a request would also do.
If close to 100 Berths are available in a given class, you are DEAD CERTAIN to get a preferred Berth of your choice, say for example Side Lower. That's not to say that you won't get a SLB if only 20 - 30 berths are left but your chances are close to 100 percentile if Berth availability is more in getting a specific berth with a small request/pleading ;)) at the time of booking at PRS which i keep reiterating and i always end up getting a SL :) Good luck.
