A Santa Fe mine shuttle with GE U23C's 7512 and 7506 snakes around curves on the Santa Rita District near Hurley, New Mexico in May 1974. The train––loaded at a Kennecott open pit mine just around the curve in the background––is en route to the smelter at Hurley a few miles away. The ore shuttles stopped running in the mid-1980s, replaced by a slurry pipeline. The smelter was closed in 2005 and little rail traffic remains today.
