3 days back, I purchased 2 tickets of my family in Siddheshwar exp
1) thru irctc – 182 seats were available. Inspite of giving seat preferences, I couldn’t get LB. I got some bekaar seats (2mb, 5mb, 8su). Since my kid is 1.2 years old, seats near door are potential danger.
2) thru ticket counter – so I try to book the same ticket, in hope that I may get some flexibility about LB & near door berths. 170 seats avl. again after trying, no LB & no SL (side lower). First...

even for me also I got preferred berth when I book online. Mostly I prefer SLB and I got it... especially when I used to travel by 16222 Kaveri Express from MAS-SBC, when I book in 3A, & opt for SLB. 9 out of 10 times I got B2/31.
Even while traveling in SHTB I prefer WS and I got, but got changed to aisle due to child traveling.

i think IRCTC should now provide berth/seat selection by map (just like bus booking). they can release the seat map after puting various quotas in place. Even with no LB, i can book berths in middle of bogie, for the sake of my small kid moving here n there.

sir mera experriance to bahut Funny hai maine ek ticket CNB TO BBS 12820 Orrisa Sampark Kranti main book karwai thi booking ke time 180 Seats AVLB. thi mene Performance main LB Likha per mujhe UB mila aur jab maine train main Safar kiya to CNB TO BBS pure coach main maximum 8 to12 Passanger hi thay aur sabhi side lowar or lower jhan bhi man hua beth kar aye .Per IRCTC ke pas lower birht nahi thi .
