This is the issue in Kerala where there are small small towns after every 25-30 km. Every passenger group of a station wants a particular train to have stops at their stations, thus resulting in lesser speed. In the last 1 year, Chalakudi,Mahe and Tanur have got added. Also heard that people were demanding it to be halted at Angamali and passenger associations in ernakulam side are urging railway authorities to consider giving halts for sme popular trains at edapally !!!!. Dont know where this is heading to? Just have a look at some of the long distance superfast trains running inside kerala. Once they are out of kerala so little stops!!
Angamali, tanur and mahe are unwanted stops. But chalakudy is needed. Consider the number of passengers from chalakudy. It is also an A class station.
High speed Railway corridor will not suit for the above mentioned issue. For that suburban service is better. Another thing people started against the HSRC project. Mangala exp is also a passenger train in Kerala.
ICE connecting major cities with the states is added with more and more stops then the solution for fast connectivity for major cities is HSRC. Regarding Mangala, certain trains primarily cater to certain region/zone etc like Mangala, Malabar for Kerala/N. Malabar etc and Matsyagandha for Dakshin/Costal Karnataka will be having more stops to cater that regions are some example. As said by Mr. Rajeev "Kerala where there are small and small towns after every 25-30 km" and which are growing rapidly year-by-year the situation will go worse in the coming years.
