CR’s first AC train on the lines of Rajdhani a huge success

The Central Railways’ first AC superfast train on the lines of the Rajdhani, running between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Hazarat Nizamuddin, drew a positive response from passengers on Tuesday. On the inaugural day itself, the train had eight wait-listed passengers in the AC second class, 26 in AC 3-tier class and three in AC first class. “We had earlier run this train as a holiday special and it was welcomed by passengers. Therefore, we were confident that it would be able to cater to the demands of the passengers,” said Atul Rane, chief PRO of CR.
The train fare is exclusive of food, thus reducing the travel expense as against the one that runs on the Western Line. “The fare does not include food charges which brings down the amount. However, a pantry car has been attached for the convenience of the passengers,” said Subodh Jain, member staff of the engineering railway board, who has played a pivotal role in introducing the train. Mr Jain further said, “Since this train is not going be an additional burden on the infrastructure and traffic, there is a good chance that we will increase its frequency.”
Meanwhile, the head of rail NGO Yatri Sewa Suwidha Sangathan, Parasnath Tiwari, has hailed the CR officials for having launched the train. However, he has demanded that the train be given a halt at Kalyan station. Mr Jain replied to it by saying, “This demand is quite genuine and I will look into it personally.”
Interestingly, the train was almost set to be included in the WR’s fleet, as it had already run a train modeled after Rajdhani and has important halts in its route and more passengers. However, Mr Jain’s constant effort to have the train run on the Central Line helped CR get its first-ever AC superfast train.
