The station gets deserted right from the evening, so if you want foods and stuff, you have to get it from the shops outside. If you are returning to bangalore by hampi express, then pack your food either from your place or any of the outside stalls as the stall in the station only offers dosa and pulao and never opens before 8 pm.
In the morning if you get down from Hampi express and wish to go to Hampi, you will find auto drivers hovering around you... Choose wisely and keep an eye on your belongings...

From here you can visit the UNESCO world heritage "HAMPI".There are city buses which are very cheap.You can also visit the super big "TUNGABHADRA RIVER DAM".There are city buses from here.
There are no direct trains between ballari - gadag line and gadag - solapur line (except mys - shiridi weekly) so if anyone from bay/hpt/kbl wants to visit badami,bagalkote,kudalasagama ,vijayapura. can take haripriya exp which will leave hpt around 5:55am will reach gdg at 7:55 am from there u can catch ubl - bjp pass leaving gdg at 8:10 ..u 'll get 15-20mins time since loco reverse at gdg ..itll reach badami at 9:45 bagalkote at 10:40 ,vijayapura at 13:15 ..in return u can come in bjp - ubl pass (18:30 gdg) or solapur - Gadag demu arr gdg at 19:30 ..u can catch hampi exp or haripriya from gdg to kbl/hpt/bay ..I hv travelled in these trains so giving these travel tips
Even for People of Ballari and Hopset who want to Go Mumbai can try Catching Manuguru-Kop exp upto GDG which arrive GDG @ 11.45am and catch GDG-CSTM which depart from GDG at 13.40pm for all 6 days except Fridays. Anyhow it has Less Quota for GDG-SUR section but then too UR pax can use it to go Bagalkot,Bijapur,Solapur and even for Pune Mumbai too.
