All curtains apparently have been removed from all 3AC coaches of trains as per directive of rail ministry due to safety reasons. Is it also being extended to Durontos and rajdhani group of trains?
Had travelled yesterday in a curtainless 3AC coach and must say it was looking like a glorified sleeper coach with a functioning AC !!!....hope 2AC and 1AC are left out of this directive.

Whether we like it or not, 3As have been, at best, glorified SLs and will remain so forever. After the advent of online booking through credit cards, traveling in AC has become so common and with the existing fare structure and rising operating costs, IR cannot do much regarding passenger comfort measures. As for curtaining, it was more of a nuisance than anything. Privacy in a small space that includes 4 washrooms, 6 doors, gangways, and 72 berths, in my personal opinion, is too much to ask for.
Its 64 berths in 3AC....and if garib rath i think 80. Lets hope that 2AC and 1AC are spared fron this new rule

Decision to remove curtains was takenon recommendation of Commissioner of Railways Safety (CoRS) following its enquiry into causes of last year's fire in Bangalore-Nanded Express train, that left at least 26 people in Andhra Pradesh.

oops! its 64, err. Btw, 2A and 1A are class apart, where you can rightfully ask for the much-touted privacy. I could sense IR using the term "security" to justify removal of curtains to drum up support. If at all security is a concern, 2A and 1A are the most insecure for women traveling alone. Having said that, even if they had not attributed it to security, I would support it as it was only proving to be a hindrance.
