Yes, there are many instances when sufficient number of HO are left and still the ticket ends in RAC or WL and when no HO are there still the ticket gets confirmed.
Sometimes IR produce berths from nowhere :) BTW - DB sir and Satish jee.. Appreciate your views on this /blog/post/1123505
Trust your instincts.... No matter what's the final outcome.. The moment you decide, defines you. Rest all is matter of chance.
instincts rely mostly upon experience, and experience is nothing but a "set of data" , and availability of data ensure better calculations.
so is instinct really as raw and natural as we are assuming here ?

Agreed. Earlier when there were no such facility like checking the past PNR entries of a train, coach compositions used to go wrong most of the time, not much of a brainstorming was there regarding the possible trend of a ticket people here used to solely predict on their instincts.
Even when the PNR Section was introduced against the trains it wasn't of much of a use simply because people didn't know how to refer them. And even if they did there weren't much PNR's to refer to. There were just a handful of guys who were regular with the prediction thing and even then it wasn't much of a use because stamping PNR entries were really a hectic job those days....
