Exactly my point was that there is going to be not much difference if a loco change is included, rather than running 500 odd kilometer with WDP4 in so much time, and i believe an idling WDP4 would consume more energy in terms of diesel while an idling e-loco might consume less energy (may be i am wrong in assuming this)
Alternate option to swapping loco.
Shut off e-loco put on a d-loco in front for that 3.45 hr ride between TPJ-ED, enable e-loco back at ED.

Average speed of that train is 42kph which is undesirable for people travelling to pgt/maq/kozhikode this train as a superfast upto tpj and wait more than a hour, driving d loco for a short distance is a mere loss which is not needed at all
It can b done but a problem is there is rake reversal at tpj.........
While it is good for the railway to save immensely on diesel costs, what the common rail passenger will prefer is more speed and reduced running time for their journeys.
Hope railways considers this in the new time table effective october-1,2017 and trains in this stretch are speeded up to some extent.
