This new design SB can be seen in other major stations of Hubballi division, SWR like Toranagallu, Hosapete, Koppal, Gadag.
Though I don't think any technical reason behind it but it is very good for promotion in tourism and for making station more attractive
technical reasons like it will be lighter to install and might be with radium fonts which will get seen at night too easily and i saw SB for Madgoan @ /blog/post/3130663
so may be konkan railway used such SB design before itself.
