Guys Sorry to tell this, I'm going to stop railfanning within three or five years, because i love pure diesel section and diesel locos, when the news of this section got electrified/this train got e loco. This all news make me sad and frustrating.
I didn't hate e locos i like e locos too, but i like d locos more than e locos
I don't know what i will do in future

I got to know atleast 60 to 70% of electricity we are getting from non renewable sources.nuclear is very dangerous
And wind, solar, hydro all are playing very small role on electricity
I will protest against it, which uses more sources and more pollutions.
Surely i will going to check all the stats and get a clear statictics about how much of coal

needed for supplying electricity for railways.
And going to compare it with diesel railways

65% Electricity source is Thermal (54% Commercial need met through Coal Reserves)!! CO2 emission @ Coal vs Diesel (220/161
click here Efficiency of E-Loco & D-Loco stands at 35% (Thermal Plant @ 38% and E-Loco @ 95%, total 35%) while EMD must be @ 40-45% Efficiency!! With Equal Smoke getting Wasted (less for EMD), E-Loco emits more CO2 coz of Coal as energy source!!
We never see much of Smoke after initial chugging for D-Loco while Thermal Plant display continuous Smoke and increased E-Loco demand will lead more coal getting burnt!!

Diesel engines in India are diesel electric engines, which means diesel is first converted to electricity and then that electricity is used to run the train. So even if 100% energy is from non renewables, carbon footprint of diesel and electric engine likely to be similar. In India, 38% energy comes from renewables. Also electric is for future. Petroleum reserves are going to run out in this century and whole world is moving towards renewable energy. Solar will soon take over as the main source of energy in next 20-25 years. Diesel will become more and more expensive as oil reserves get depleted. Also India has dearth of petroleum resources. But not so much dearth of coal.
Apart from this,

e-locos have more ease of operation for loco pilots. Also no refueling etc.
Also while looking at carbon footprint of diesel loco, you are ignoring the pollution by refineries.
