I stayed in CBE for 4 years.People in Tamilnadu give train as their 1st preference for intercity travel and never you can find night bound trains going vacant.
With new line of Podanur-Pollachi they can actually start a late night train yet there was demand for extension of Cheran.

Also ALLP MAS SF leaves CBE around 10:15 pm. If ALLP MAS gets late it might overtake Nilgiri on its way cause its arrival time is 05:50 pm at MAS. I don't know how good this TT will work .
Cheran revised time of dep from CBE is 22:50 . This is also the same time for CAPE-SBC Island exp at CBE. So maybe some change in time might be in store for Island Exp.There will be too many trains packed in CBE going towards Salem in a 1 hr span from 22hrs till 23hrs ( Allp MAS, Nilgiri, Cheran Exp, CAPE-SBC, CAN-YPR)
