This has puzzled me too also. No one has provided any authentic answer yet. Some are saying shortage of electric locos.
Please provide us with examples of some more trains where trains running with E-locos in the past now running with D-locos.
May be to utilize emd locomotives, bcoz some emd locomotives are only 5-6 years old and as most of the routes are electrified, making diesel locomotives jobless
